*Oregon Hiking Trip*
On Sunday, August 3, I went to Enterprise, Oregon to meet with my dad, brother, and nephew to backpack the Eagle Cap Wilderness. We stayed in a hotel that night and on Monday morning we entered at Two Pan Trailhead and hiked to Minum Lake. The next day was a long day of backpacking. We went over Minum Pass and down into the Lakes Basin area. I hiked part way up with my dad, Benny, and Tavis to the Eagle Cap Summit, but I am not great with heights so went back down while they went to the summit. We then hiked from lake to lake trying to find a spot to camp, but we didn't find anything suitable, so we decided to hike another couple miles to Horseshoe Lake. A couple of us (not me) had to deal with heat exhaustion and so it was a quite night. The next morning everyone felt good and so decided to go fishing at Raz Lake. Apparently dad, who was our guide had never actually found the trail and had somehow made it there. So we started out climbing up and up until the rock face made it so we couldn't go any further. I don't think I would have made it further anyway because I was scared to death and pretty much slid down on my butt. This was not my greatest moment. After much deliberation we found the trail and had a hard two or so mile climb into the lake. It was relaxing, and I actually caught a fish. It was a good thing because the state of Oregon must really think highly of their fish for how much we had to pay for a licenses. After spending most of the day there, we headed back down to Horseshoe to cook our fish and jump in the lake. On Thursday, we backpacked out of horseshoe down to Six Mile Meadow. We stayed there, ate lunch, and put our feet in the river. After awhile we decided to hike out instead of staying one more night. We hoofed it to Wallowa Lake were we ate humungous burgers and fries and had to listen to annoying yuppies the next table over. We all really enjoyed the trip. It was definitely one to remember. It was hard to leave the beauty of the wilderness. It was also hard to leave my Dad, brother, and Tavis, but I missed Alisha and the kids so much. I can't wait to take my kids there so this family tradition can live on.
