Twice a year the middle school does something called breakout day. It is a half day of fun for the kids. On Friday the first half of the day the kids go to all six shortened periods. After lunch though, they get to go to activities of their choice. The tricky part of this for the teachers is that we have to come up with the activities. Some teachers stick with the activities they've done for a long time, some change activities each time a new breakout day happens. Since this is only my third breakout day that I was a part of, I am still trying to find an activity that is worthwhile to do.
This time I chose to do a human size Clue game. It's just like the board game clue, but real people are the pawns. Alisha, Wendy, and I spent Thursday night taping the floor for the game. Alisha also made Clue game cards. I wish I could say it was a smashing success for them, but the kids were a little young and so there were some bumps through out the day.
I still think it would be really fun for adults to play. All the teachers who saw it were impressed and thought it would be fun. The only problem was taking the tape off. Now that took some time.
